Naves de madera

Material explorations for the construction of social spaces in the Chiloé Archipelago.
The convergence between the timber building tradition and the opportunities of generative design defines the research field of this studio. Grounding the exploration in Chiloé’s sociocultural context, we will work with material systems to design large-span enclosures—timber halls—conceived as structures capable of activating social, territorial, and identity-based bonds.

The studio proposes the “hall-building” not only as a container for community programs but as a device capable of guiding design and construction processes that strengthen the social fabric. This pursuit responds to the urgent environmental, economic, and cultural challenges facing the archipelago in the context of the climate crisis and the territorial impact of the new bridge over the Chacao Channel.

Exploraciones materiales para la construcción de espacios sociales en el Archipiélago de Chiloé.
La convergencia entre la tradición constructiva en madera y las oportunidades del diseño generativo define el campo de investigación de este taller. Situando la exploración en el contexto sociocultural de Chiloé, se trabajará con sistemas materiales para diseñar recintos de grandes luces —naves de madera— concebidos como estructuras capaces de activar vínculos sociales, territoriales e identitarios.
El taller propone el “edificio-nave” no solo como contenedor de programas comunitarios, sino como un dispositivo capaz de encauzar procesos de diseño y construcción que fortalezcan el tejido social. Esta búsqueda responde a los desafíos urgentes —ambientales, económicos y culturales— que enfrenta el archipiélago frente a la crisis climática y el impacto territorial del nuevo puente en el Canal de Chacao.
